Slocum was an obscure Uranian poet, professional chemist and graduate of Columbia University, who published the first ever anthology of homosexual literature to be published in America - Men and Boys: An Anthology (1924). He also published Lads O’ the Sun: Memories (1928), which included his own poetry and photographs.
