Steven Adrian Smith, the chairperson from 1979 to 1985, was arrested along with two other PIE executive committee members on incitement charges in connection with issue nr. 6 of the group's internal bulletin, Contact!. Before the trial, he fled to Holland. After renewed threats to proscribe PIE, the group finally succumbed to political pressure, and the organization disbanded in early summer 1985. (Pascal)
