[p.60-61] Who are the pederasts? It is necessary to ask that question because of the current assumption that men who are "victims" of "child abuse" become "abusers". Current research is extremely suspect both because of it's evangelistic fervor against man/boy sex and because the pederasts studied are those who have been arrested and imprisioned. (An increasingly popular defense in man/boy sex cases, rape, and other crimes is to claim that child sex abuse is the cause of crime or deviance - a new twist to the "demon rum" and "devil made me do it" theories.)

The legitimate, non-propagistic research literature, a survey of the NAMBLA membership and my own friendships with hundreds of pederasts lead me to reject the notion that pederasts are "constructed" by other pederasts - a view similar to the old notion that homosexuality was caused by seduction.

There are pederasts who had relations with older men when they were boys, but very few. Most pederasts were aware of an attraction for younger boys when they were themselves very young. A few acted on this desire in their own adolescence, but many were not sexually active until their twenties or even much later. Many pederasts longed for sexual and affectionate contact with men and boys when they were young, but found none. Others were sexually promiscuous with boys, men, girls, and women in their youth. There is simply no pattern - unless it is an increasing celibacy out of terror.
