Many of the current prejudices against pedophiles have had an analogon in widely distributed prejudices against homophiles, which are distributed today mainly through the religious rights:
It also allows to compare the general persecution by law, "common opinion" and science. Since they have failed repressing homophiles, they can fail also repressing pedophiles.
The main bound are the arguments of power difference and lack of information by the child.
The "internal reasons" of becoming homophile or pedophile, be it genetical reasons, early childhood experiences or something else, may be different, even if the "result" seems similar. As the pedophile, as the homophile feel that their sexual orientation is part of their identity which was always present.
