Freud's "latency period" coincided suspiciously with later studies of when parents start to pull away emotionally in western society, out of fear of sexualizing the child. It is also when the greatest amount of repression of sexual questioning and sexual play occurs! It is no wonder that adults think that children "lose interest" at that age range; it is exactly when it doesn't seem as "cute" as it did when they were preschoolers, and when it is making the adults nervous about their own sexuality!! The kids learn how to keep their mouth shut and to lie well, and then are taken to be "latent"!! ;)

As for my life, it was several girls exactly in this age group that I experienced oral sex with for a number of years, on as many occasions as we could find to do this privately, in the woods or our basements or such. And it was NOT at all necessary to cajole them into it, hell it was their idea and had been from the beginning! I was 11 to 14. They were from 7 to 12 during those several years. It had been a 14 year old who first jumped me with a "69" maneuver when I was 11, and taught me how to make her explode! It was her pajama parties with the other neighborhood girls that made them aware of my tongue and its availability on a safe basis! The rest was pure joy! Another game played by the boys in our neighborhood who were seen as unsafe and unreliable in THEIR "latency period" at 7 to 10 was circle jerks and butt-fucking the younger boys by force in their tents in the back yard! Many incidents were covered up regarding that, but a couple of the worst assailants were sent off to the youth home.
